Jets’ Buster Skrine: ‘You can’t rebuild in New York’

Plenty of folks don’t have very high expectations for the New York Jets.

With a quarterback room filled with Josh McCown, Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg, it’s hard to blame them. But don’t count Buster Skrine as one of their cheap mets jerseys.

“You can’t rebuild in New York,” Skrine told ESPN. “Because y’all will eat us up. Ain’t no rebuilding here. It’s getting right to the point. This is a competing team. We still have the players to compete.”

Brought in as a free-agent addition before the 2015 season, Skrine was an acquisition for a team that was ready to contend. That Jets squad finished just outside the playoffs with a 10-6 record, and things seemed to be trending toward a postseason appearance in 2016. Then the wheels fell off.

Skrine has a point: The Jets do still have a handful of players that make them somewhat competitive. But New York has also bid adieu to Nick Mangold, Brandon Marshall and Darrelle Revis, among others. It’s been a signal that the team is deconstructing to start over with new pieces. The Jets are going young, and with youth and roster anonymity usually comes more losses than wins. But Skrine is under contract for three more seasons, so he has to trumpet his franchise’s chances.

Having played for the Browns from 2011-2014, he’s also been part of cheap replica jerseys and a few internal detonations.

“I’m going into my seventh year and I played for Cleveland, so I’ve seen it happen,” he said. “Sometimes you have to figure out the right formula for the team, and I trust Coach (Todd) Bowles. Every morning, he’s up at 4:30. I trust (Jets GM Mike) Maccagnan. I trust everybody. I know they’ve got something up their sleeve. They’re going to make it work.

Cleveland holds the No. 1 pick, and the club is considering not only the consensus favorite for the choice, Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett, but a quarterback as well, according to an ESPN report. The Jets select at No. 6. Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky figure to be the most tantalizing options at the position.

“I don’t think they should take a QB at No. 6. I think that would be a big mistake,” Jeremiah said of the Jets. “You’d basically be admitting you made a big mistake in taking a quarterback (Christian Hackenberg) in the second round last year. You identify a wasted second-round pick last year, you’d cost yourself the opportunity to get a great player at another position at No. 6 this year, and you probably take yourself out of the quarterback market next year. Without getting ahead of ourselves, when you look at what could be available, I think it’s going to be a much better group next year than we have this year.”

Brooks suggested a quarterback could potentially be the right move for the Jets at No. 6, but agreed with Jeremiah that it’s not the right play for la kings jersey cheap Cleveland at No. 1.

He plays a premier position and should be able to play that position for the next 8-10 years at a very high level, in a division where you need to be able to get after the passer.”

The pick gives New York one of the draft’s most talented defenders, a hard-hitting, downhill tackler who exits college renowned by his former teammates and coaches as one of the best leaders in LSU lore.

“I think this is the second-best football player in the draft,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said after Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the selection.

The 6-foot, 214-pound Adams joins a wanting Jets secondary that includes Marcus Gilchrist and Calvin Pryor at the safety spots. The rookie will be given a chance to step in and shake up the pecking order right away for third-year coach Todd Bowles.

“He can play all over the field and he could have an immediate impact on defense just like Landon Collins jersey did coming out (for the Giants),” one scout told cheapjersey. “I love him. I think he’s a winner.”

The Jets have now used nine straight first-round picks on defensive players since taking quarterback Mark Sanchez in 2009. And why not, considering Gang Green has ranked in the bottom half of the league in scoring defense in five of the past six seasons.

The Jets have a long way to go to challenge for the AFC East, but Thursday’s decision gives this team one of the draft’s most treasured assets. It’s a start.

Mike Glennon getting new deal with Chicago Bears due to cheap jerseys

The marriage between Mike Glennon and the Chicago Bears has been sealed.

Youth USA Soccer Shirt

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback officially joined the Bears on a three-year deal Friday, the team announced. His contract includes $18.5 million in guarantees, sources informed of the deal told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport reported he expects the Bears to still select a quarterback as well, making Glennon a bridge quarterback in an ideal world.

As a result of adding Glennon, the Bears have parted ways with Jay Cutler jersey.

As we’ve said before, this is potentially a good deal for the Bears. They are not getting trapped into a lengthy contract and have the 23rd highest average per year money devoted to their starting quarterback. While Brian Hoyer devotees will suggest that he, or a similar veteran quarterback, could have been a cheaper option as a bridge starter, think of the extra money going to upside. Glennon is just 27 years old and has a season’s worth of starts under his belt already. In 18 career games, he has thrown for 4,100 yards, 30 touchdowns and 15 picks at a 60 percent clip.

This contract has been subject to much speculation and hysteria this offseason, but the truth is that $14.5 million is what the market dictates. Former Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler is averaging $18 million per season on his four-year, $72 million deal under similar circumstances. Should the production on the field be similar, the Bears got off easy.

The Bears agreed to terms with former Titans wideout Kendall Wright jersey on a one-year, $4 million deal, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The team later confirmed it agreed with Wright and offensive lineman Tom Compton jersey. Wright was No. 59 on Around the NFL’s Top 101 free agents list.

Wright takes the roster spot of the recently-departed All-Pro receiver Alshon Jeffery. Entering his sixth season since being drafted in the first round by Tennessee, Wright will get a fresh start on a “prove-it” deal in Chicago, alongside unproven options in Kevin White and Cameron Meredith.

Nike Bears #10 Mitchell Trubisky Navy Blue Team Color Men's Stitched NFL Elite JerseyWright said in January that he was ready to be “free” of the Titans, with whom he saw his role gradually diminish following a breakout 2013 campaign. Fond of freelancing as a top target in Tennessee, it’s unclear what role Wright will play with cheap jerseys of the Bears, but with the roster as thin as it is, there’s room for upward mobility on the depth chart.

The move has been expected for months. With Chicago set to pay free-agent quarterback Mike Glennon $45 million over three years, with $18.5 million guaranteed, Cutler’s release became a formality.

The Bears signed Cutler to a big seven-year contract in 2014. With no guaranteed money left on the deal, Chicago saves $12.28 million on the salary cap, with just $2 million in dead money, by releasing the QB.

Cutler spent eight seasons in the Windy City after being drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos in 2006. He played just five games in 2016 due to injury.

The strong-armed quarterback has long been a darling of scouts, but his penchant for back-breaking turnovers and taking costly sacks irked Chicago fans for years. Viewed as a coach-killer by many, Cutler went through a handful of offensive coordinators during his time in Chicago.

At 33 years old, Cutler should find a landing spot in a market in need of signal-callers. The QB-needy New York Jets have been linked as a possible destination for an experienced stop-gap like Cutler to land.

Joe Namath wants to see Christian Hackenberg start

Everyone has an opinion on who should start as the New York Jets’ quarterback.

Few of those opinions matter.

While Joe Namath might not have the ear of the coaches, the Jets legend offered his view on the road Gang Green should take in 2017.

Nike Jets #33 Jamal Adams White Men's Stitched NFL Elite Jersey“I would like to see [Christian] Hackenberg,” Namath said, via NJ.com. “I think we need someone for the future.”

Josh McCown was signed as the bridge quarterback and appears set to earn the opening day gig. Given the 37-year-old veteran’s injury history, even if coach Todd Bowles goes with the “safe” option out of the gate, it’s likely we’ll see Hackenberg and/or Bryce Petty at some point in 2017.

Namath is among Jets fans who think the team should just roll with Hackenberg and give the second-year pro a chance to sink or swim. McCown has a clear ceiling. Hackenberg is a complete unknown.

Jamie Collins Red Jersey

“This is no reflection on Josh,” Namath said. “He’s a proven veteran and brings a lot to the team. But realistically, you want to make the playoffs, win a Super Bowl. We have to get the guy who can do that.”

If Hackenberg is that guy, the Jets finally solved the problem. If it’s not, #ScamForSam — an attempt to position itself to draft USC quarterback Sam Darnold — is in full effect. Before the Jets can finally find the franchise QB to lift them past the Patriots, first they need to determine whether second-round pick Hackenberg can be that answer.

Goodell: ‘Positive reaction’ to running clock after XPs

Roger Goodell has speed on the mind.

When the NFL Commissioner sat down with NFL Network’s Judy Battista on Thursday, the pace of the game — and, specifically, how to increase it — loomed large.

Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale

“It has been an effort for a long period of time. We’ve talked about the length of the game,” Goodell said. “This effort’s not as focused on the length of the game. This is focused on what’s happening outside the plays — how fast we get cheap jerseys and the ball set, the number of breaks, the number of intrusions — so that fans can focus on the action.”

Goodell stressed a desire to see fewer “interruptions that are unnecessary or unnecessary in length,” saying the league has a “whole package of things that we’ve studied over the last year” to speed things up.

One idea? The concept of a “shot clock” that would tick off between an extra point and the ensuing kickoff.

“I think there was a very positive reaction to that,” Goodell said of NFL’s Competition Committee. “Most of the players that are on the extra point — maybe a tight end, maybe a kicker — are not on the kickoff team. So their special teams coaches will have to get prepared for the kickoff team and get them out there. Of course, this is when we don’t go to a commercial break. But there’s a lot of wasted time in there where, again, we want to take that out of the game. And this does not affect the 156 plays during the game. This is all about outside of the plays and what we can do to try with China jerseys and take that downtime out.”

Cheap NFL Jerseys From China

That plan would include tweaking the current format of sandwiching commercial breaks around the kickoff, which Goodell acknowledged as giving fans “an excuse to step out and do something else.”

“We call those the ‘double-ups.’ They drive me crazy, they drive a lot of people crazy,” Goodell said. “They actually happen about 27 percent of the time. Your reaction, feels like more, everybody says the same thing. I think that’s why you want to get rid of wholesale jerseys. So our aim is to eliminate that.”

Said Goodell: “It’s not necessarily the length (of commercial breaks), it’s the number. So we’re gonna reduce it by 25 percent. We’re gonna add a commercial to each of those (breaks) but it’s something we’re testing with our fans, (and) they actually didn’t even notice that. What they notice is the number of breaks.”

The Browns hold a whopping 22 draft picks over the next two years — 11 in 2017 and 11 in 2018. And we’re not talking about a scrap pile of third-day selections, either. The Browns hold a pair of first-round picks and a pair of second-round picks in the upcoming draft (April 27-29), and the only round in which they don’t have a selection is the last (seventh). And after an unusual trade with the Houston Texans Thursday in which they picked up a quarterback they might not even keep in Brock Osweiler, along with a 2018 second-round pick, the Browns’ 2018 draft is even more front-loaded with three second-round choices.

But the Browns were in no hurry to trade picks in last year’s draft, and they certainly had more than enough leverage to do it. Cleveland made 14 draft picks last year, giving them, as of now, 36 picks over a three-year stretch from 2016-2018.

Woodhead, who spent the past four seasons in San Diego with the Chargers, suffered a season-ending ACL injury last September in the team’s Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars jersey. Rapoport reports Woodhead is now fully healthy after undergoing surgery to repair the tear.

The running back joined the Chargers in 2013 after stints with the New York Jets and New England Patriots. In his first year with the Bolts in NFL jerseys from China, he finished the regular season with the most touchdown catches among NFL running backs and the second-most receptions and receiving yards.

Since then, Woodhead has been plagued by the injury bug. A broken ankle sidelined him for the majority of the team’s 2014 campaign.

By signing with Baltimore, Woodhead will be reunited with former teammate Eric Weddle, who signed with club last offseason.

Lions pick Wentz late, hand Eagles first loss of year

After jettisoning Joique Bell this offseason, the Detroit Lions have been in the market to add a between-the-tackles veteran running back.

On Tuesday, they took Stevan Ridley for a test drive, a source told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

The running back disappointed last season with the New York Jets, gaining only 90 yards on 36 carries (2.5 yards per attempt). He missed the team’s first eight games while recovering from an ACL injury, which affected his 2015 performance. Rapoport added Ridley should be 100 percent at this stage of his recovery.

Ridley’s best season came in 2012 when he earned 1,263 yards on 290 carries and 12 rushing touchdowns with the Patriots. Lions new general manager Bob Quinn, who spent his entire career in New England, knows Ridley well. If healthy, Ridley could add a veteran presence behind second-year pro Ameer Abdullah jersey and pass-catching back Theo Riddick.

1. Big Play Slay lived up to his moniker Sunday. Darius Slay forced a Ryan Mathews fumble with 2:41 remaining, which the Lions recovered, leading to the go-ahead field goal. Slay then intercepted a Carson Wentz heave on the next Eagles play from scrimmage to seal the win. Philadelphia avoided Slay most of the day, and instead picked on weaker Lions defensive backs. When the Eagles went his way late, the corner made them pay. Slay signed a big-money contract extension with cheap jerseys this offseason to little fanfare outside of Detroit. He’ll get nationwide attention after winning and sealing the game for the Lions.

2. Wentz threw the first interception of his career on his 135th pass of the season to quickly stifle any last-minute comeback. The rookie quarterback played sublime otherwise. Wentz picked apart a banged-up Detroit defense in the final three quarters with precision passes, heady rollouts, timely runs and great line calls. Too much is made of Wentz dinking-and-dunking. That’s the offense Doug Pederson calls. When asked to throw down the field Wentz displayed pin-point accuracy — his ball placement on a 28-yard back-shoulder throw to Jordan Matthews jersey late in the first half was Pro Bowl caliber. Wentz led the Eagles back from a 14-0 deficit to start the game. If the Eagles’ defense wasn’t so sleepy in the first quarter, it would have been a different outcome.

3. It was a tale of two halves for Jim Schwartz’s defense. The Eagles looked sluggish out of the gate. Matthew Stafford carved them up with quick passes on three straight touchdown drives of 11 plays, 9 plays and 12 plays to open the game. Philadelphia could not cover or tackle running back Theo Riddick (two TD catches) in the first half. Jim Bob Cooter used a plethora of misdirection early to gash Schwartz defense.

Nike Lions #23 Darius Slay JR Black Men's Stitched NFL Limited Rush JerseyNigel Bradham played sparingly in the first half — Pederson said after the game the linebacker wasn’t punished for his bye-week arrest. In the second half, Bradham was all over the field, including three tackles for loss. The Eagles’ front dominated the second half, sacking Stafford three times — Fletcher Cox (1 sack) clown-suited Detroit blockers several times. After giving up 17 first downs in the first half, the Lions got just three in the second two quarters. It was just enough.

4. Golden Tate made up for his awful start to the season with a huge 27-yard catch-and-run on third-and-4 to set up the game-winning score. Jim Bob Cooter utilized Tate in the run-game early and wanted the receiver more involved in the offense after he’d been a ghost the first four games of the season.

5. The Eagles rotated Mathews and Darren Sproles in the backfield. Mathews took the majority of totes (11 for 42 yards; 3.8 average), but Sproles was the most efficient runner (5 for 45). Mathews made a crucial mistake, carrying the ball in his inside arm on the fumble (the Eagles’ first turnover of the season). A veteran should know better.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Detroit Lions will host Clausen for a work out on Monday, per a source informed of the situation.

Clausen started three games in 2015, one with the Bears and two with the Ravens authentic jerseys. He owns a 54 percent completion rate for his career with seven touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

The 28-year-old signal-caller hasn’t been considered a viable starter since his wayward rookie season with the Panthers in 2010. Still, he could find work as a competent backup who can run an offense in a pinch.

Per Rapoport, Clausen also worked out for the Washington Redskins last week.

With Abdullah on the shelf, the Lions will turn to Theo Riddick as the starter in the short term. Riddick is the NFL’s premier pass-catching running back, but not a player who is going to churn up yards between the tackles. His usage on running plays might increase slightly in the coming games, but giving a back like Riddick a ton of carries is going to land him on the injured list and wholesale nfl jerseys, too.

The door now opens for rookie Dwayne Washington jersey to take on a much bigger role. The 6-foot-1, 223-pound back impressed in the preseason. He was already tabbed as the Lions’ short-yardage and goal line back. He should get more carries between the 20s with Abdullah gone (everyone rush to your fantasy football waiver wire!!!). Zach Zenner also likely will see his first action of the regular season after two healthy scratches.

The Abdullah-Riddick combination looked unstoppable in Week 1. Now Jim Bob Cooter will have to adjust his offense to compensate for half that tandem missing at least half the season.

To replace Abdullah on the active roster, the Lions signed wide receiver Aaron Dobson, who most recently spent time with the Patriots. Lions general manager and former Patriots director of pro scouting Bob Quinn drafted Dobson to New England in the second round of the 2013 draft.

Is Revis Island nearing its end in New York?

For years and years, Revis Island has been a destination few receivers found luxurious. That locale contained only a shackled shed of frustration stalked by one deadly shark named Darrelle.

The New York Jets open the season Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals jerseys. One would think this would be the ideal situation for Darrelle Revis to lock A.J. Green jersey on that famous island. With Cincinnati breaking in new receivers opposite the No. 1 target, the Jets’ defense could seize the upper hand if Revis shuts down Green one-on-one.

But the 31-year-old Revis won’t spend the whole day matched up with the Bengals Pro Bowl receiver.

“It won’t be just Revis; it will be a lot of people,” defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers said on Thursday, via ESPN. “A.J. is a tremendous player. We’ve got to have 11 sets of eyes, knowing where he is. … It’s not necessarily a one-on-one matchup.”

Added coach Todd Bowles: “That’s just one of many matchups and cheap jerseys. It’s a team effort, and we’ve got to pick our spots, and I’m sure they have to pick their spots. It’s not even about Revis and Green; it’s about us against them.”

Revis is coming off wrist surgery and missed portions of the offseason program. The veteran understands the reason for authentic football jerseys and the game plan entering Sunday’s tilt.

“To start the season off, we have to be cautious a little bit because we have some tough games coming ahead,” Revis said. “I think the game plan this week is very comfortable for everybody.

“We’re going to try to switch things up a little bit this week for us to maybe wear (down) some of their guys on offense, just wear ’em down a little bit,” Revis added. “That’s just mixing guys in and out or lining up guys in the scheme we’re trying to do.”

While this isn’t likely the end of Revis Island, we are inching closer and closer to an island clearance sale. In 2015, Revis showed signs of age, getting burned by younger, speedier receivers like DeAndre Hopkins jersey and Sammy Watkins.

Well-publicized interest in both Kaepernick and Hoyer makes sense: It puts the squeeze on Fitzpatrick’s camp. Among the teams inquiring about Kaepernick — the Browns and Broncos lead the way, per NFL Media columnist Michael Silver and Rapoport — the Jets are seen as the least serious party.

Still, the Jets under general manager Mike Maccagnan have operated as a no-nonsense franchise, boldly swinging a trade last offseason for wideout Brandon Marshall and adding running back Matt Forte jersey on Wednesday.

Fitzpatrick was surprisingly productive for the Jets last season, but Maccagnan and the team don’t appear willing to overpay for a career journeyman. Hoyer would come cheap after the Texans put all their chips and wholesale NFL jerseys on the table to land former Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler.

“It wasn’t just the turnovers, we didn’t play well at all in either phase of the ballgame and we took an ass kicking,” Bowles said during his post-game press conference. “It wasn’t just Ryan. I can name a bunch of people and I can start with the coaches too. It was a (expletive) game plan, (expletive) execution, and it was (expletive) all around.”

Bowles wasn’t done ripping his squad. This line from veteran beat writer Rich Cimini sums it up well: Unofficially, Bowles had almost as many expletives in his postgame news conference (five) as Fitzpatrick interceptions (six).

“When nothing works, you have to change everything,” he said. “It was a (expletive) game plan, obviously by the score, and the execution of it was (expletive). You can’t point to one thing. You have to get back to the drawing board and coach better.”

Nike Jets #22 Matt Forte Green Player Pullover NFL HoodieThe Jets had eight turnovers while earning 305 yards of offense. The defense allowed Alex Smith his first 100-plus passer rating day since Week 15 of last year. Smith carved up the Jets secondary for 237 passing yards and a TD; 89 of those yards and the score going to tight end Travis Kelce.

Fitzpatrick was miserable, completing 20 of 44 passes for 188 yards, zero touchdowns, and six INTs for an 18.2 passer rating.

Ryan has a lot of respect for the game and probably has an inherent respect for Fitzpatrick given his career longevity and history as an underdog. But Ryan also knows his own stats better than just about any coach in the NFL, and he has to walk into games against Fitzpatrick feeling pretty good.

There is a perception of Fitzpatrick that could be underlining his tenure with the Jets, and might be the reason the team has been so hesitant to fork over a balky salary package. As Darryl Slater of NJ.com points out, if you remove the Texans and Bills (2) from New York’s schedule in 2015, more than half of their wholesale jerseys and remaining opponents finished 20th or worse in DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average), a wonderful metric created by Football Outsiders to gauge the true value of a defensive performance.

In 2016, Fitzpatrick faces the Cardinals, Seahawks, Rams, Chiefs, Bengals and Steelers. Oh, and Rex Ryan jersey two more times, of course.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets strike one-year contract

Former Jets defensive end Dennis Byrd, best known for suffering a serious spinal injury and fighting his way back to be able to walk again, has died in a car crash. He was 50.

Byrd was traveling down state Route 88 in Oklahoma north of Claremore on Saturday when he was involved in a two-car collision that claimed his life and sent two others to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Tulsa World. A 17-year-old driver veered into the oncoming lane, striking the vehicle driven by Byrd, who was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries.

“We are all devastated by the untimely loss of Dennis Byrd,” Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a statement. “Soft-spoken and strong-willed, the inspiration he provided to all not only by his play on the field but from the way he overcame life’s obstacles was remarkable by any measure. His impact on the New York Jets and the many lives he touched will never be forgotten.”

The seemingly endless saga of Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets jerseys has finally ended, just in time for training camp and wholesale jerseys.

wholesale NFL jerseys

Fitzpatrick signed a one-year deal to stay in New York.

The contract is worth $12 million, but the QB has a chance to make $3 million more based on team performance NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, according to a source. The news ends a stalemate that dragged on all offseason with countless stories and little drama about how it would end.

The Jets wanted Fitzpatrick back; they just wanted him back at the right price. Fitzpatrick wanted fair compensation after a career season in New York, but he never found another team willing to give him true leverage.

General manager Mike Maccagnan stood pat at the position in free agency, only adding Christian Hackenberg jersey in the second round of the draft. The team talked up Geno Smith as a legitimate starting option and they backed up that talk by refusing to bend to Fitzpatrick’s contract demands. Still, they always made it clear publicly they wanted Fitzpatrick to be their guy after the team’s surprising 10-6 first season under Todd Bowles.

It wouldn’t be a Jets camp contract story without a little drama, although the Roscoe Diner wasn’t involved this time. NFL Media’s Jeff Darlington reported that the Jets imposed a 7 pm ET deadline for Fitzpatrick to sign a deal or they were ready to move on. Fitzpatrick enjoyed his offseason and cheap jerseys as long as possible, showing up exactly at 7 p.m.

wholesale New York Jets jerseys

Nike Jets #22 Matt Forte Green Men's Stitched NFL Elite Rush JerseyThis was a deal that made too much sense for both sides not to happen. The Jets compromised by reducing their multi-year contract offer to one year. The final contract figures were proposed by Fitzpatrick’s camp, essentially betting on himself. If Fitzpatrick racks up 31 touchdowns and throws for almost 4,000 yards again, he’ll be in position to cash in with a better deal next year. The Jets, meanwhile, didn’t want to commit to Fitzpatrick long-term as a true franchise quarterback.

Even under a one-year deal, it’s not like the Jets broke the bank to keep Fitzpatrick. He will earn significantly less than the average salary of Ryan Tannehill, Andy Dalton jersey, and Colin Kaepernick. Twenty-one quarterbacks will make more than him in 2016, which is fair when you consider the journeyman trajectory of his career.

Literally no other quarterback in football has an average salary between $7.5-$16 million. Fitzpatrick is valued as the exact median between starter and backup. The team-friendly deal wraps up an excellent few weeks for Maccagnan, who also just signed standout defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson to a long-term deal.

Now comes the hard part. Fitzpatrick has found the perfect situation under coordinator Chan Gailey with one of the best receiver tandems in football. But he was fortunate to be intercepted only 15 times last year and his ultra-aggressive style has brought some cold streaks during his career. If Fitzpatrick can’t recapture his 2015 magic, we still wouldn’t be surprised to see Geno Smith get some starts for the Jets this year. It just will come later than Geno Nation hoped.

The embattled Jets passer has suffered some tough luck the past two years.

After starting 29 of his first 30 career games, Smith was in line to keep the gig last season. Then the notorious punch from teammate IK Enemkpali happened, wiping out the start of the season. By the time Smith was healthy enough to play, Ryan Fitzpatrick was entrenched and on his way to breaking the franchise touchdown pass record.

Then Smith listened to team brass hype him this summer as the contract fiasco with Fitzpatrick played out, only to watch the Harvard grad be granted his job back immediately upon signing.

Smith got a front row view for Fitzpatrick’s early season implosion — including nine interceptions in a two-game span.

Finally, the former second-round pick got his chance to start and show he’d made progress as a quarterback.

Eight passes later Geno’s chance is gone. Thus ends his Jets tenure.

Smith will head into free agency looking for a fresh start. Despite a dearth of NFL quarterbacks, Smith, coming off an ACL tear with little game film from the past two years, is unlikely to have a hot market.

The Jets will now turn back to Fitzpatrick. At some point, we expect to see Bryce Petty jersey under center this season.

N.Y. Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey retires

It was no secret that the New York Jets were going to have to make some major changes to their coaching staff this season after a 5-11 season.

On Tuesday, we found out the scope of their reorganization.

According to the team, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey jersey decided to retire. The 65-year-old told coach Todd Bowles that 2016 would be his final NFL season before it started.

“I informed coach Bowles prior to the 2016 season that I would retire after this season,” Gailey said in a statement released by the Jets. “I thought it was best to tell him early, so that he could begin to think about how he would move the team forward on offense. While we did not have the season we all wanted to have, I think there are some great people here at the Jets and in the New York/New Jersey area. I wish those wholesale jerseys all the best moving forward.”

Todd Bowles added: “I’m grateful to Chan for joining our coaching staff and enjoyed working with him. The respect that I have for him as a person and a coach only increased during our time together.”

Nike Jets #22 Matt Forte Green Team Color Men's Stitched NFL Elite JerseyAccording to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, who served as an offensive coordinator for the Browns in 2015, is among the favorites to replace Gailey.

Quarterbacks coach Kevin Patullo, running backs coach Marcel Shipp jersey, cheap jerseys, defensive line coach Pepper Johnson, outside linebackers coach Mark Collins and defensive backs coach Joe Danna were also let go in what turned out to be a grim morning in Florham Park. For a team that did not fire its head coach or defensive coordinator, Kacy Rodgers, the Jets’ staff directory will resemble that of an almost brand-new regime.

While it is wrong to blame a position coach for the construction of a roster, one could go down Tuesday’s list of dismissals and see where the Jets are trying to make a difference. The defensive line and defensive backs were two of the biggest disappointments in 2016. The decline of Darrelle Revis and the spotty play of Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson jersey had as much to do with the club’s regression as their offensive woes.

The quarterback position was also a disaster, with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty and Geno Smith shuffling on and off the field in what seemed like an endless carousel. Is the team any closer to debuting second-round pick Christian Hackenberg, who red-shirted the entire 2016 season?

This season was a difficult one for the Jets. Motivation, preparation and passion were all regularly called into question, especially down the stretch. When something like that happens, the head coach better have a good reason or prepare to make changes. Bowles chose the latter.
